GEARS Christmas Party 2008

Saturday 20th December marked the first event organised by the new Officers and Committee. The Christmas Party was put together at quite short notice, with Darren (the new GEARS Secretary) organising the ticket sale, going door to door, in all weathers.

The Police club was booked (last year by Anne and Shaun), the price included entertainment and food too!

Darren also persuaded (Darren is good at persuading!)  one of the C7 wardens to be Santa as both Darren and Steve didnt want to do it despite having the figures for it.

As all children had to be accompanied and we felt this rule had to be enforced without exception,so a fair number of adults attended too, and despite it being “for the kids”, the atmosphere meant there were lots of grinning and smiling faces of all ages.

The DJ provided lots of good seasonal music and ran lots of games to keep the kids entertained, the “Guess the theme tune”  “Pass the parcel” and “Skipping Game” proved the most popular.

All the kids got Burger and Chips (and despite the fact I was assured the burgers were organic I ahve my nagging doubts) a drink and an Ice Cream and there was enough to go round for the adults to got stuck in too, the two female Wardens turned up just in time for the scran, Santas visit and the musical chairs. Early on in the proceedings local councillors Louise and Wendy popped to offer support, but they missed the food by a good hour.

A big thanks to all the staff at the Police Club, Darren for tramping the streets flogging tickets, Helen (Patience’s Daughter) for sorting the presents out, the C7 Wardens and  everyone who turned up and made the party go so well.

Scran anyone?

Shirley (left) and Arthur (not right not surewho that is but it certainly aint Arthur) celebrated  their golden wedding anniversary at the party, we can only say Arthur must have been craddle robbing in ’58 or Shirley was a “child bride”.
